Keeping my skin naturally glowing and blemish-free has been nothing short of a Mt Everest-type quest… If I’m not sweating all over it in the gym (literally daily), then I’m lathering it with makeup for photoshoots (more often than not, with brands that I don’t normally use) so it’s a constant battle to keep it in check. Combine that with my diagnosis of PCOS (thanks genes) and suffice to say it’s been a challenge. No one wants to deal with breakouts (hellooooo.. I’m 40.. not 14!!!) but I guess the upside of that is my oil production seems to be just fine!!!

It took me an age to sort my skin out, and I couldn’t have done it without the direction of the dedicated team at The Clinic. Kaye and Lisa really helped me understand what was going on underneath the exterior and find the root of the problem, so now I have a simple regime that I follow to the letter and the results have been incredible.

I’ve decided to break down what I do into an easy-to-follow timeline to show you everything from my daily rituals to my once-a-year treatments and all the lovely products that I use along the way.

Cleanse. Moisturise. Protect.

As I train every day, I tend to shower twice a day so it’s easy for me to wash my face both morning and night. If I’m going out at night (and wearing makeup) I like to take the superficial layer of makeup off my face first with some Micellar Face Water and then I use a very gentle gel-based cleanser that leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean without drying it out. Ditto with the moisturiser. I find so many of them way too thick and gluggy for my skin. The Moisturiser by The Clinic is the perfect consistency with all the right ingredients for me. And don’t forget the sunscreen!! Another daily MUST-HAVE.

Once a week I like to give my skin a deeper clean. This doesn’t mean scrubbing the life out of it!! I never use exfoliators with abrasive ingredients in them – they are far too brutal for the sensitive skin on my face. Instead I like to use a clay-based mask that naturally draws out the impurities and gently exfoliates the skin without the use of scrubbing. I love the Aspect Gold Exfoliating Clay Mask. It contains natural exfoliating, mattifying and purifying ingredients that calm and refresh the skin.

Ok.. time for something that packs a little more punch!! As most of you know I split my time between Sydney and Bali every 2 weeks… which not only means I’m flitting between 2 different climates on a regular basis, it also means AT LEAST 4 medium-haul flights PER MONTH with that hideous life-sucking air conditioning on the plane. No wonder my skin does backflips from time to time. One thing that helps is a delicious Blueberry Peel (you actually almost want to eat it…) It instantly gives you beautiful glowing skin and does wonders for congested pores and mild acne. This is an absolute MUST for me every month.

With that all said and done, I do want to point out however, that skincare products alone won’t solve all your problems. So in conjunction with my treatments I also make sure I drink plenty of water, get enough sleep and limit all the nasties that can contribute to dull skin and breakouts (alcohol, refined sugar, fried food etc). A healthy gut also plays a vital role in the condition of your skin – for some great tips on what to add into your diet for healthy, glowing skin, check out my article Getting Under Your Skin.
